Med Spa Daily Operations Checklist: Opening to Close

A med spa daily operations checklist covers five parts of the day: opening before the first patient, reception and check-in, resetting treatment rooms between patients, inventory and product, and closing. The 35 items below are written for a practice manager to hand to the team. Check them off as you go, mark anything that does not apply, and print the list for the day. Items that restate an OSHA rule cite it.

How to roll it out to your team

  1. Name an owner for each section. Opening and closing usually belong to whoever has the keys that day; reception to the front desk lead; rooms to each provider.
  2. Mark what does not apply. A practice with no lasers or no retail drops those items, and the percentage reflects only what is left.
  3. Print it daily for the first month. A signed, dated sheet shows what was done and what was missed, and where the routine keeps breaking.
  4. Review missed items weekly. An item that is skipped every day either needs a different owner or does not belong on the list.

Where the OSHA items come from

The bloodborne pathogens standard requires contaminated work surfaces to be decontaminated after procedures, right away after a spill, and at the end of the shift if they may have been contaminated since the last cleaning. It also requires sharps containers to be kept upright and replaced before they overfill. The hazard communication standard covers container labels. For the full set of OSHA items a medical office keeps, use the OSHA compliance checklist, and for stock levels the reorder point calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What should be on a med spa opening checklist?

Open up and walk the space, log the refrigerator temperature, run start-up checks on the devices booked today, set up each treatment room, review the schedule for first-time patients and long appointments, confirm intake forms and consents are out, hold a short team huddle, and assign overnight messages.

What should be on a med spa closing checklist?

Decontaminate surfaces, shut down devices and note faults, log the refrigerator temperature again, balance payments against the card batch and cash, list any unsigned charts, confirm tomorrow's appointments, handle linens, trash and regulated waste, then log off, lock product storage and set the alarm.

Does this checklist tell my providers how to treat patients?

No. It covers operations only: setup, reception, cleaning, inventory and closing. Clinical steps, storage temperatures and device settings come from your medical director, your written protocols and each manufacturer's instructions.

Which items are legal requirements?

The items with a citation restate federal OSHA rules: decontaminating work surfaces, changing protective coverings, sharps container handling (29 CFR 1910.1030) and labeling secondary chemical containers (29 CFR 1910.1200). The rest are operating habits, not legal requirements. Your state may add its own rules.

How do I use the checklist every day?

Print a blank copy for each day, or open the page, check items as they are done and print it at close. Progress is kept in the page address, so a bookmarked link reopens with the same items checked. Reset clears it for the next day.

Can I change the items?

Mark any item that does not fit your practice as not applicable, and it drops out of the count. For items specific to your practice, add them by hand to the printout.
