Top 9 Managed IT Services for Medical Practices in 2026
Top 9 managed IT services for medical practices and med spas compared: HIPAA support, 24/7 security monitoring, BAAs, published terms and who each one serves.

For practice owners and managers. Updated October 2, 2026 · Prepared by Prospyr. Prospyr makes practice software, not IT or security services, and none of the companies below is a Prospyr product. Each summary reflects what the company publishes on its own website, checked October 2026. Scope, pricing and contract terms change, so confirm everything in writing before you sign.
What does a managed IT provider do for a medical practice?
A managed IT provider runs your practice's technology for a monthly fee: help desk support for your team, monitoring and patching of computers and the network, backups, email and Microsoft 365 administration, and security tools that watch for threats around the clock. Healthcare-focused providers add HIPAA risk assessments, staff security training and support for the clinical systems you depend on. The differences that matter are who they usually serve (hospitals or small clinics), what the monthly fee covers, how fast they answer, and whether they will sign a business associate agreement.

How we chose this list
We looked for providers that name healthcare or medical practices as a market on their own websites, then checked four things a practice manager can confirm before a sales call:
- Healthcare depth. Does the provider describe HIPAA work, clinical systems or medical customers, or is healthcare one line in a long industry list?
- Fit for a small practice. Several healthcare security firms mostly serve hospitals. We left out providers whose published case studies were all large health systems.
- Security, not just help desk. Round-the-clock monitoring, backups and incident response matter more to a practice than fixing printers.
- Published terms. Pricing, billing model or contract terms where the company states them.
Most providers here do not publish prices, which is normal in this category. The order is our editorial view, not a measure of results.
1. Abacus (formerly Medicus IT)
Abacus provides managed IT, cybersecurity and compliance services to healthcare organizations through what it calls its mCare platform. Medicus IT, a healthcare-only provider, merged with Abacus Group in July 2025 and now operates as Abacus Healthcare, according to the company.
What stands out:
- Healthcare is half the business. Abacus states that 95% of its 1,200+ customers are in financial services and healthcare.
- Scale in medical practices. It reports supporting 6,500+ providers and 2,500+ locations.
- EMR-centered support. It lists EMR-centered IT management, a 24/7 service desk, security monitoring and incident response, and HIPAA/HITECH-aligned compliance.
- Specialty experience. Its healthcare page names dermatology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dentistry and urgent care among the groups it supports.
Right for: a specialty practice or growing group that wants a provider whose team already knows clinical workflows. Ask: whether it takes on single-location practices of your size, what the monthly fee includes, and whether it signs a business associate agreement (BAA) as standard. The healthcare page we read did not mention one.
2. CMIT Solutions
CMIT Solutions is a franchise network of managed IT offices headquartered in Austin, Texas. It states it has served small and mid-size businesses for 30+ years and that nearly a quarter of its business comes from healthcare.
What stands out:
- Small practices are named. Its healthcare page lists clinics and private practices, pediatric and dental offices, emergency care facilities and specialty providers.
- A HIPAA program. CMIT advertises "a dedicated HIPAA compliance program" along with cybersecurity, network setup, IT purchasing and managed IT.
- Local offices. Because it is a franchise system, your service comes from a nearby owner-operated office.
Right for: a single med spa or small clinic that wants a local team it can call by name. Ask: how much healthcare work your local office does, since experience varies by franchise, and get the BAA, response times and exit terms in writing.
3. Dataprise
Dataprise, based in Rockville, Maryland, offers managed IT, cybersecurity, cloud hosting, backup and disaster recovery, endpoint management and a 24/7 support desk for healthcare organizations. It reports 30+ years in business, 500+ certified engineers, 2,500 small and mid-size business customers and 386,000 devices under management. It also notes a "Top 15 Healthcare MSP" ranking from ChannelE2E in 2024.
Right for: a practice that wants a large provider with threat detection, vulnerability management and incident response under one contract. Ask: who your named contact is, and how pricing is calculated. Dataprise says cost depends on users, devices, locations and the services included, so request a written quote for your headcount.

Book a Demo4. Corsica Technologies
Corsica Technologies provides managed IT (networks, servers, backup, Microsoft 365), 24/7 security monitoring through its security operations center, HIPAA assessments and documentation, and virtual CIO and CISO consulting. It lists clinics, behavioral health organizations and multi-location providers among its healthcare work and reports offices in 20+ US locations, including Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis and Tampa.
Right for: a multi-location practice that wants one predictable monthly bill. Its Corsica Secure plan advertises unlimited services, consulting and support plus a three-year technology roadmap. Ask: what "unlimited" excludes (new hardware, projects, after-hours visits), and the contract length.
5. Ntiva
Ntiva advertises HIPAA-compliant IT support for healthcare organizations, delivered remotely or on site. It lists offices or service areas in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, New York, Texas and the Washington DC metro.
Right for: practices in or near those regions that want the option of a technician on site. Ask: which support plan fits a practice of your size and what each plan includes. Ntiva describes tiered support plans but does not publish prices.
6. Thrive
Thrive serves hospitals, physician groups, outpatient clinics and specialty practices with 24x7 monitoring, network management, help desk support, HIPAA-aligned cloud storage, threat monitoring, endpoint protection, risk assessments, backup and disaster recovery. It reports 2,500+ customers and 180,000+ end users supported.
Right for: a practice that wants managed IT and a tested disaster recovery plan from the same vendor. Ask: how often backups are test-restored, and how quickly your EMR and phones come back after an outage.
7. Intelligent Technical Solutions
Intelligent Technical Solutions (ITS) offers managed IT, cybersecurity, compliance, cloud, co-managed IT and healthcare IT, with sales offices including Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento and Seattle. Its site features a rural health care organization that credits ITS with security changes to avoid breaches and HIPAA violations. It also sells phone systems, which we do not cover here.
Right for: a practice that wants to estimate cost before talking to sales. ITS offers an online managed IT pricing estimator. Ask: how many small medical practices it supports and whether it signs a BAA.
8. Clearwater
Clearwater works only in healthcare. It offers 24/7 managed security, managed Microsoft 365 and Azure, HIPAA risk analysis, security assessments and incident response, and it lists physician practices and ambulatory care groups among the 500+ customers it reports. It advertises a "100% OCR success rate" for its risk analysis work, referring to the HHS Office for Civil Rights.
Right for: a practice that already has someone handling day-to-day IT and wants a specialist for security and risk analysis. Ask: the minimum engagement size, and whether its services fit a single-location practice. It also sells compliance software; compare it with the options in our HIPAA compliance consultants list.
9. HIPAA Vault
HIPAA Vault is not a full help desk. It provides HIPAA-compliant hosting (including WordPress), encrypted Gmail and Office 365 email, secure fax and sFTP servers. The California company reports 25 years in operation and 1,000+ customers, from solo practices up. It states that it provides a BAA for every HIPAA service it offers and lists month-to-month payment options.
Right for: a practice whose website or email handles patient information and needs a compliant home for it. Ask: what is included in the monthly price, and who handles website updates. It also sells online forms; your practice software may already cover intake.
Questions to ask any managed IT provider
- Will you sign a business associate agreement? If the provider can reach your email, backups or practice software, get a BAA signed before it gets access.
- What does the monthly fee cover? Ask for a written list: help desk hours, on-site visits, security tools, backups, new-hire setup, and what is billed as a project.
- How fast do you respond? Get response times for a down computer during clinic hours and for a suspected breach at 9 p.m.
- How are backups tested? Ask how often they restore a backup to prove it works, and how long a full recovery would take.
- Who owns the accounts? Your Microsoft 365 tenant, domain, firewall and admin passwords should be in the practice's name, with documented handoff if you leave.
- What is the contract term and exit notice? Compare month-to-month against one- or three-year agreements, and ask about early-termination fees.
- Do you carry cyber insurance, and does your work satisfy ours? Many cyber policies ask about MFA, backups and endpoint protection. See our cyber insurance list.
Where Prospyr fits
Your IT provider protects the devices, network and email your team uses every day. Prospyr is cloud-based practice software, so charts, bookings and payments live in the platform rather than on a server in your back office. That makes the IT provider's job about secure logins, devices and the network. If you are reviewing your practice software at the same time, see the aesthetic EMR and how Prospyr handles multiple locations, or book a practice demo.
Frequently asked questions
How much do managed IT services cost for a medical practice?
None of the providers on this list publishes a per-user price. Most quote based on the number of users, devices and locations, plus which security tools are included. Ask for a written quote that lists every service and what counts as an extra project.
Do med spas need a managed IT provider?
Not always, but most practices without an in-house IT person benefit from one. A med spa still handles patient records, photos and card payments, so someone needs to own security updates, backups and staff training. A small practice can start with a local provider and a cloud-based EMR.
What is the difference between an MSP and an MSSP?
A managed service provider (MSP) runs your day-to-day IT, such as help desk, devices and backups. A managed security service provider (MSSP) focuses on security monitoring, threat response and risk analysis. Some companies here, such as Clearwater, are security-first; others, like CMIT Solutions, cover both.
Should our IT provider sign a BAA?
Ask for one if the provider can reach patient information in your email, backups or systems. HIPAA Vault states it signs a BAA for every HIPAA service; for the others, confirm it in writing before work starts. Your HIPAA advisor can confirm what your practice needs.
