For injectors. Updated October 2, 2026 · Prepared by Prospyr. Prospyr makes practice software, not injector training, and none of the course providers below is a Prospyr product. Each summary reflects what the provider publishes on its own website, checked October 2026. Course dates, prices and faculty change often, so confirm everything in writing before you book travel.

What is ultrasound-guided injection training?

Ultrasound-guided injection training teaches injectors to scan the face with a handheld ultrasound probe so they can see tissue layers, vessels and previously placed filler before and during a treatment. A good course covers four things: how the probe and image work, normal facial anatomy on screen, how to recognize different fillers, and how to use ultrasound when a complication is suspected. Most programs combine online modules with a one- or two-day hands-on day using live models, phantom gels or cadaver specimens. The differences that matter are group size, how much time you spend scanning yourself, and who teaches.

How we chose this list

We started from the education partners that Clarius, a handheld ultrasound maker, lists for aesthetics, then added course providers named by those partners and by known anatomy educators. We kept programs that a practice manager can check on four points:

  • Aesthetic focus. The course is built for facial injectables, not general musculoskeletal or emergency ultrasound.
  • Hands-on scanning. The provider says attendees scan, not only watch.
  • Published details. Dates, location, group size, prerequisites or price are on the website.
  • Named faculty. You can look up who teaches.

The order is our editorial view, not a measure of results. Your licensure, budget and how far you can travel may point you somewhere else.

1. Cutaneous

Cutaneous is an Amsterdam-based company (Cutaneous BV) founded by Dr. Peter Velthuis and Dr. Leonie Schelke that teaches facial ultrasound for aesthetic medicine only. It offers self-paced online courses (basics, anatomy by region, filler recognition and an adverse events course with seven modules and a final exam), an image and video library on membership, and hands-on courses on live models in small groups.

What stands out:

  • Scope. It teaches ultrasound guidance for all filler types, skinboosters placed by cannula, thread lifts, subdermal energy-based procedures and targeted filler dissolving.
  • History. It cites a filler complications clinic at Erasmus MC dating to 2011 and publishes a free vascular adverse events (VAE) protocol.
  • Scale. It reports 1,300+ members in its learning community and hands-on courses in 14+ countries.
  • Published prices. As of October 2026, the basic facial ultrasound e-learning lists at €495, and the one-day Amsterdam base course with Dr. Velthuis lists at €2,600 with a maximum of five participants.
  • Upcoming dates. Its calendar lists courses in Amsterdam (November 14, 2026 and March 13, 2027), Warsaw (November 21, 2026), Mexico City (November 20 to 23, 2026), Paris (November 28, 2026) and Nice (March 31, 2027). Its US courses this year (Kingston, Massachusetts and Los Angeles) were in September.

Right for: injectors who want to start online and then travel for a small hands-on day, or who want a deep reference library afterward. Ask: when the next US hands-on date is, and whether online pre-learning is included in the hands-on fee.

2. Cotofana Anatomy (with IAFA)

Cotofana Anatomy is the education platform of Professor Sebastian Cotofana, a facial anatomist who teaches aesthetic injectors. Most of its catalog is online anatomy, but several of its live events now pair cadaver dissection with ultrasound. The clearest example is The Anatomy & Injection Intensive with the IAFA symposium at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach on November 5 and 6, 2026.

What stands out:

  • Ultrasound checked against dissection. On Day 2, attendees inject toxin and filler into body donors in small groups, correlate high-resolution ultrasound with the anatomy, then dissect to see where product landed. Candice Dery, RDMS, of Aesthetic Imaging, LLC is listed as ultrasound instructor.
  • Published prices. As of October 2026: Day 1 (observation-only masterclass) $1,450, Day 2 (hands-on dissection and ultrasound) $4,250, or $4,995 for both days. IAFA lists 10 total CE.
  • Other dates. The Anatomy Experience in Manhattan Beach, California (November 14 and 15, 2026) includes ultrasound anatomy alongside donor anatomy and live injections; the Sunday day is listed as sold out. A Seattle event is listed for February 20 and 21, 2027.

Right for: experienced injectors who want to see ultrasound images and the real anatomy side by side. Ask: how many attendees share each specimen and each probe on the hands-on day. For more cadaver options, see our list of aesthetic cadaver courses.

3. SCAN Aesthetics

SCAN Aesthetics runs a two-day ultrasound workshop for medical aesthetic providers. Its faculty are Rachel Polazzi, CRNA (owner of Ultrasound Aesthetics), Alfredo Ferreyra, RMSKS, RDMS (founder of MSKOrtho) and Candice Dery, RDMS (owner of Aesthetic Imaging). The next listed workshop is January 15 and 16, 2027 at the Bioskills Center of Nevada in Henderson, near Las Vegas.

Day 1 covers ultrasound basics, transducer handling and ergonomics, and upper, mid and lower face scanning with a freestyle lab. Day 2 is a cadaver lab with ultrasound-guided injections by facial region. An optional point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) foundations certification session runs on the afternoon of Day 2 and is booked separately.

Right for: US injectors who want two sonographers on the faculty and a cadaver component in one trip. Ask: the price, the participant-to-probe ratio, and the refund terms. The site states that sales are final 45 days before the course and refunds carry a 4% processing fee, and that attendees without appropriate credentials will not be admitted.

4. Sonosthetics (with AmSpa)

Sonosthetics is the ultrasound training program of Dr. Steven F. Weiner, a board-certified head and neck surgeon specializing in facial plastic surgery, based in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Its course, Ultrasound Fundamentals for the Aesthetic Injector, is also offered through the American Med Spa Association (AmSpa). Prospyr is an AmSpa Platinum partner.

AmSpa describes three uses it teaches: checking facial vascularity before filler, measuring skin and fat before treatment, and evaluating filler complications and composition. Attendance is limited to licensed RNs and above (RN, APRN, PA, MD/DO), and every attendee receives a copy of the Atlas of Ultrasound and Anatomy: Facial Rejuvenation by Chris Surek, DO, FACS and Dr. Weiner. Sonosthetics also keeps a directory of trained providers.

Right for: nurses and providers who want a one-day fundamentals course with a recognized textbook. Ask: current dates and price. The most recent dated sessions on the Sonosthetics site are from 2024 at $3,000 for a full eight-hour day, so check with AmSpa for 2026 and 2027 scheduling.

5. Ultrasound Aesthetics

Ultrasound Aesthetics is run by Rachel Polazzi, CRNA, from Pompano Beach, Florida. She reports using ultrasound in regional anesthesia since 2007 and in aesthetics since 2020. Its one-day in-person course covers facial anatomy, ultrasound basics, ultrasound-guided toxin and filler technique, and ultrasound-guided filler dissolving, with practice on molds and live models.

Class size is capped at four, and lunch and learning materials are included. A separate one-day cadaver and ultrasound anatomy lab (up to 20 people) is available by arrangement, and the company partners with SCAN Aesthetics for the two-day Nevada workshop.

Right for: injectors who want close supervision and are willing to schedule a custom date. Ask: the fee, whether 1:1 sessions cost more, and whether you can bring your own scanner.

6. Cosmetic Courses

Cosmetic Courses is a UK aesthetic training school that runs a Facial Anatomy & Ultrasound Masterclass taught by plastic surgeon Dr. Noor Elbanna in partnership with Clarius. Its most recent listed session, on July 31, 2026 in London, has already taken place, and no newer date was posted when we checked in October 2026. That session was priced at £995 + VAT for one day.

The agenda covers scanning fundamentals, facial ultrasound anatomy, recognizing injected products, ultrasound-guided injection on phantom gel, vascular mapping, and simulated vascular occlusion management on gels that mimic vessels. It is offered at foundation and advanced levels in small groups.

Right for: UK-based practitioners, or US injectors combining travel with other training. Ask: when the next date is and whether the advanced level needs the foundation day first.

7. Clarius Classroom

Clarius Classroom is a free video library from Clarius, which makes handheld wireless ultrasound scanners. Filtered to aesthetics, it lists 112 videos, with tags by facial area (cheek, chin and jaw, forehead and temple, lips and others), plus aesthetics webinars and a page of third-party education partners.

It is not a course and does not replace supervised hands-on practice. Clarius sells scanners, so expect its material to use its own devices.

Right for: injectors who want to learn the vocabulary and normal anatomy on screen before paying for a course. Ask: your course provider which scanner it uses, so your self-study matches what you'll practice on.

Questions to ask any ultrasound-guided injection course

  1. How much time will I scan myself? Ask for the ratio of attendees to probes and to faculty, and the number of hands-on hours.
  2. What do I practice on? Live models, phantom gels and cadaver specimens teach different things. Ask which ones and for how long.
  3. Who teaches the ultrasound part? Check whether a registered sonographer or a physician with published ultrasound work is on the faculty.
  4. Does it cover complications? Ask whether the course teaches scanning for suspected vascular occlusion and guided filler dissolving, and what protocol it follows.
  5. What credits and prerequisites apply? Confirm CME or CE hours in writing, and whether your license level is accepted. Your state board and malpractice carrier decide what you may do with the skill.
  6. What is the refund and transfer policy? Several providers make sales final weeks before the course.
  7. Which scanner do you use, and is there a device pitch? Some courses partner with a manufacturer. That is fine, but know it before you buy a probe.

Where Prospyr fits

Ultrasound adds a new kind of record to each injectable visit: images, the product and layer you documented, and any dissolving or follow-up. Keep those in the patient's chart with the before-and-after photos, not on a personal device. See how Prospyr handles aesthetic charting and the media archive, or book a practice demo.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need ultrasound training to inject filler?

No. Ultrasound training is not a general requirement to inject filler, but many advanced injectors take it to see vessels and existing product before treating. What you may do depends on your license, your state's rules and your medical director, so confirm with them.

How long does it take to learn facial ultrasound for injections?

Most providers teach the basics in one or two days, often after online modules. Every provider on this list treats the course as a starting point, and building speed and confidence takes supervised practice on your own patients afterward.

How much does ultrasound-guided injection training cost?

Published prices on this list run from free (Clarius Classroom) to €495 for online basics, about £995 to €2,600 for a one-day hands-on course, and up to $4,995 for a two-day course with cadaver dissection, as of October 2026. Travel, the scanner itself and lost clinic days are extra.

Can ultrasound help with filler complications?

Several courses on this list teach ultrasound for assessing suspected vascular events and for guiding filler dissolving. Treat it as one tool within an emergency protocol, not a replacement for one. For dedicated training, see our list of aesthetic complication management courses.
