Plastic surgery cost: what the ASPS average includes and leaves out

The cost of plastic surgery has several parts. The surgeon's fee is the one ASPS publishes. Anesthesia, the operating room or surgical facility, and other expenses such as garments, medications and lab work are billed on top. A quote that shows one total number may bundle them; ask what is in it.

This calculator starts from the ASPS surgeon-fee average, lets you replace it with a practice quote, and adds the other costs from numbers you enter. The anesthesia, facility and other fields start at zero because ASPS publishes no average for them, and the example button uses illustrative amounts only.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a mommy makeover cost?

ASPS does not publish one average for a mommy makeover because the combination varies. Adding its 2023 average surgeon fees for breast augmentation with implants ($4,875), a breast lift ($6,816) and a tummy tuck ($8,174) gives $19,865 before anesthesia and facility costs. Practices often price combined surgery differently from separate procedures.

How much does a BBL cost?

ASPS reports a 2023 average surgeon fee of $7,264 for buttock augmentation with fat grafting (Brazilian butt lift), up from $6,083 in 2022. That figure excludes anesthesia, operating room facilities and related expenses, so the total on a quote is higher.

How much does breast augmentation cost?

ASPS reports a 2023 average surgeon fee of $4,875 for breast augmentation with implants and $5,719 for fat grafting only. Implants, anesthesia and facility charges may be billed separately depending on the practice, so ask what the quote includes.

What is the average cost of plastic surgery?

There is no single average. ASPS 2023 average surgeon fees range from $3,359 for upper eyelid surgery to $11,397 for a lower body lift, and $11,395 for a facelift. Region, the surgeon's experience and the technique used all move the price.

What does the average surgeon fee not include?

ASPS says its average surgeon fee does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses. Those can include medications, garments, lab work and implants when billed separately. This calculator lets you add them from your quote, since ASPS does not publish an average for them.

How is the monthly payment calculated?

The calculator uses the standard loan formula: payment = principal × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)^−n), where r is the APR divided by 12 and n is the number of months. For example, $19,665 financed at 9.9% APR over 60 months is about $416.86 a month. At 0% APR the cost is simply split evenly.

Can a practice share this plastic surgery cost calculator with patients?

Yes. Link to this page, or enter your practice name and print the estimate as a PDF. If you have a quote for a patient, type your surgeon fee in the tool to replace the ASPS average. The printout is marked as an estimate, not a quote.
