This guide to the best med spa consultants covers firms that help with opening, pricing, memberships, sales training, multi-location growth and accreditation. What does a med spa consultant do?

A med spa consultant is an outside advisor who helps an owner open, run or grow a medical spa, usually by working on the business plan, ownership structure, pricing, memberships, hiring, sales training and the numbers behind them. Medical spa consulting splits into a few specialties. Startup consultants take a founder from idea to opening day. Operations and growth consultants fix margin, provider pay and consult conversion in a practice that is already open. Narrower specialists handle pricing, membership design, multi-location standardization, patient experience or accreditation surveys. The right hire depends on which problem costs you the most money today.

This page is the overview. Each specialty has its own deeper list, linked in the table below and in each entry.

How we chose this list

We started from the firms on our eight specialty consultant lists and picked the ones that cover the widest range of med spa needs or lead their specialty. Every firm here had to meet four tests on its own website:

  1. Med spas are a named market. Not only day spas, hospitals or general small businesses.
  2. The work is described. The firm says what it delivers, such as a business plan, a pricing model, scripts, SOPs or a mock survey.
  3. Someone is accountable. A named founder, consultant or team with aesthetic, finance or compliance experience.
  4. Terms are visible or easy to get. A published price, a free first call or a clear proposal process.

We left out firms that mainly sell practice software, and we list firms that also sell software for their consulting work only. The order is our editorial view, not a measure of results. A firm that ranks lower here may be the best choice for one specific problem, so check the specialty list that matches yours.

1Terri Ross Consulting#

Terri Ross Consulting (TRC) was founded in 2012 and works with med spas, aesthetic and wellness businesses and plastic surgeons, plus corporate clients such as device companies, chains and private equity groups. It reports training and consulting for more than 2,000 aesthetic practices.

What stands out:

  • Several formats. Sales training onsite or virtually, private coaching for owners, a sales and business mentorship with monthly calls, workshops and a formal business evaluation.
  • Group work. Its corporate practice covers chains, franchise groups and physician-owned multi-location practices, with KPI scorecards that track revenue per hour and provider utilization.
  • Whole-team training. Its training covers front desk, managers, patient coordinators and providers.

TRC appears on our business coach, multi-location, patient experience, startup and coordinator sales training lists.

2Spa Advisors#

Spa Advisors is a Phoenix, Arizona med spa consulting practice that reports 25 years of advisory work and more than 100 facilities guided nationwide. The work is financial first: feasibility models for new med spas, compensation realignment and margin correction for open ones, lease and profitability review for buyers, and standardized reporting for multi-location operators.

What stands out:

  • Clear about fit. It serves owners of an operating spa or salon, founders with financing in place, buyers and multi-location operators, and states that it does not take unfinanced concepts or branding-only projects.
  • Modular. Engagements can cover a single phase, such as a feasibility model or a compensation review.
  • A small first step. It offers a 15-minute med spa profitability review.

Spa Advisors appears on five of our specialty lists: startup, multi-location, pricing, salon conversion and business coaches.

Right for: an owner whose problem is margin, not marketing, or a founder who wants the model checked before signing a lease. Ask: the scope and fee for one module, whether the 15-minute review has a cost, and how many of its facilities were med spas rather than day spas.

The firm also sells its own CRM and automation software, Business Builder. We list it for its consulting and training only.

Questions to ask any med spa consultant

  1. What exactly do I receive? Get a list of deliverables (business plan, pricing model, scripts, SOPs, dashboards) and the date each one is due.
  2. Who does the work? Ask whether the founder, a senior consultant or a junior team member will run your engagement.
  3. How are you paid? Flat fee, hourly, monthly retainer or a share of revenue. Get the term and the notice period in writing.
  4. Do you take referral fees from vendors? Many consultants recommend equipment, software, lenders or suppliers. Ask whether any of those pay the consultant.
  5. Have you worked in my state? Ownership, supervision and delegation rules vary widely. Structure questions belong with a healthcare attorney, not only a consultant.
  6. How will we measure the result? Agree on two or three numbers up front, such as revenue per provider hour, consult conversion or member count.
  7. Can I talk to two practices like mine? Ask for owners who finished an engagement at least six months ago.

Where Prospyr fits

Most consulting work ends with new prices, new membership tiers, new pay plans or new KPIs, and those only stick if your practice software can run and report them. Prospyr keeps bookings, aesthetic charting, payments, memberships and packages on one patient record, with analytics by provider, service and location, so a consultant can work from real numbers and your team can keep the changes running after the engagement ends. Frequently asked questions

How much does a med spa consultant cost?

Most firms do not publish fees. Of those that do, ClinAdvize lists a $250 Power Hour and a $2,500 launch package plus $399 a month, MD Business Advisors lists education membership from $199 a month, and Medical Director Co. lists medical director placement at $799 a month, all as of October 2026. Full startup or turnaround projects are usually quoted after a discovery call.

Do I need a consultant to open a med spa?

No, but most first-time founders benefit from help with the business plan, ownership structure and medical oversight, which are the steps that are expensive to get wrong. If budget is tight, hire a healthcare attorney for structure and a startup consultant for the plan, and do the rest yourself. Our startup consultants list compares nine firms.

What is the difference between a med spa consultant and a business coach?

A consultant usually diagnoses a problem and delivers something specific, such as a pricing model or a launch plan. A coach works with the owner over time on goals, accountability and decisions. Several firms here do both. See our business coaches list if accountability is what you need.

What is the difference between a consultant and a management company?

A consultant advises and your team does the work. A management company or MSO takes over business functions such as HR, payroll, purchasing and reporting, often for a share of revenue, growth or equity. Compare those in our med spa management companies list.

When should a med spa hire a pricing or membership consultant?

When revenue is growing but profit isn't, when prices haven't moved while product and payroll costs have, or when a membership program is discounting more than it earns. Start with a cost-of-goods review per treatment; our treatment pricing calculator is a quick first check.
